Peer Leaders

About the Program

In 2018, students from Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School formed a group known as the Bridging LIVES Peer Leaders at the end of their sophomore year. This youth-led coalition acts as a sub-committee of the Bridging LIVES community coalition to address substance use prevention within the towns of Bridgewater and Raynham.

The Peer Leaders have acted as youth advocates within the school, and most recently, worked to strengthen the school’s disciplinary health policy on vaping by including an educational component.

The Peer Leaders believe education will offer their peers the opportunity to not only understand the dangers of e-cigarettes but reflect on the negative health impacts imposed on their bodies.

In Practice

Similarly, in an attempt to spread awareness, the Peer Leaders presented the harmful side effects of vaping to their local community members and beyond. This includes presentations for school administrators, school committee, and local peers, as well as, students across southeastern Massachusetts.

To further connect with people outside of their immediate community, the Peer Leaders joined the 84 movement, which is a statewide organization committed to promoting anti-tobacco use and prevention efforts. As a chapter member, students participated in projects like the Good Kinds Of Quitting Activity, in which students joined forces with other chapters to increase their outreach. Along the way, the Peer Leaders even helped lobby State legislators to pass a ban on flavored and menthol tobacco products.

Committment

To further connect with people outside of their immediate community, the Peer Leaders joined the 84 movement, which is a statewide organization committed to promoting anti-tobacco use and prevention efforts. As a chapter member, students participated in projects like the Good Kinds Of Quitting Activity, in which students joined forces with other chapters to increase their outreach. Along the way, the Peer Leaders even helped lobby State legislators to pass a ban on flavored and menthol tobacco products.

Even though the Peer Leaders have committed themselves to countless responsibilities, from honors classes to student government and extracurricular activities, they still contribute their time to bettering the school and community environment through these efforts.

The Peer Leaders try their best to be bright young leaders who set an example of leadership, advocacy, and the power of the youth voice. As the founding seniors graduate, they are leaving a legacy to the younger crew, a group of young up and coming leaders. The new Peer Leaders are looking to continue to spread their message and make a strong, positive impact on their community.
